Tactical End Cap

Tactical End Cap

The Tactical End Cap is an innovative end cap for a counter-IED water disrupter. The end cap allows a detonation cord to pass through the end cap so the disrupter can sit flat on the ground when placed in a vertical orientation. The detonation cord is routed from the lower end of the disrupter through the end cap without an extreme bend in the cord and without interfering with the vertical position of the disrupter.

As shown in the isometric drawing, the end cap has an upper portion that secures to an end of the water disrupter and a flat base that supports the disrupter on the ground. The end cap has an inner surface that matches the geometry of the water disrupter to hold components of the water disrupter together. The end cap has an opening in the upper front end that provides room for the disruption charge to pass while sides of the end cap extend above the opening to secure the disrupter. The front of the end cap has an outer surface that matches the front end of the water disrupter to aid in positioning the disruption charge against a target. The end cap has an internal step which raises the disrupter off the base providing space for the detonation cord to route through the endcap and out an opening in the rear of the end cap.

For example, the Tactical End Cap can provide a vertical stand to quickly deploy an Alford Technologies DemiModTM water disrupter (no federal endorsement provided). The DemiModTM consists of two containers (a tamper and a projectile) that sandwich an explosive charge and are held together by opposing endcaps. The Tactical End Cap replaces one of the end caps to support the DemiModTM in a vertical position so that its blade-like jet of water can breach entrance barriers or neutralize IEDs with a vertical water jet.

The Tactical End Cap is available to law enforcement and public safety personnel working on projects or training exercises involving the use of a counter-IED water disrupter. The Tactical End Cap can be made from plastic using 3D printing or injection molding.
